In a tragic incident, a hit-and-run accident occurred on SR-76 early this morning, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is currently investigating the incident and is appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the perpetrator’s identification and apprehension.

The accident occurred around 1 a.m. on State Route 76, in close proximity to the Couser Canyon area. According to CHP Officer Mark Latulippe, an unidentified driver struck a pedestrian and fled the scene without rendering aid. Sadly, the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP has been tirelessly working to gather as much information as possible to identify the suspect. Witnesses have been cooperating with investigators, providing statements regarding the tragic hit-and-run incident. Officer Latulippe has urged anyone with additional information related to the accident to contact the CHP as soon as possible.

The westbound lanes of SR-76 were temporarily closed during the investigative stages of the incident. However, traffic was soon allowed to resume, albeit with delays due to the road being narrowed for the investigation.

Authorities have not released any details regarding the identity of the pedestrian, pending notification of their next of kin. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Hit-and-run incidents involving pedestrians are a serious concern within the community, prompting authorities to take stringent measures to prevent such accidents. The CHP strives to raise awareness about pedestrian safety and reminds drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, especially when pedestrians are present.

As the investigation unfolds, the CHP is hopeful that leads will emerge, leading to the identification and apprehension of the hit-and-run driver. The agency has assured the public that they are determined to bring justice to the grieving family and ensure the responsible party is held accountable for their actions.
